with Internet infrastructure provider, Unitech Networks, to satisfy
telecommunications demand for emerging Ethernet services
to the SME and residential markets in Asia Pacific.
According to Haliplex, home users
and businesses operating out of rural areas, metropolitan office blocks and
high-rise apartments are today demanding and expecting the same quality and
variety of communication services as corporations.
The Haliplex solution aggregates
traditional voice and data services with evolving IP access technologies in a
single platform that is seamlessly integrated into existing carrier management
and billing systems. Unitech is delivering an end-to-end, metropolitan Ethernet
networks solution for carriers based on a suite of products from industry
leaders Atrica, Sorrento and Haliplex.
Mr Alex Chan, chief executive
officer at Unitech Networks explained, "Ethernet is the preferred and simplest
method of delivering new IP services across existing carrier SDH/Sonet networks
- the predominant infrastructure used by customers to access major carrier
networks today.

flexible, multiservice access technologies that enable them to leverage their
current infrastructure and lower unit costs to increase subscribers, revenues

Haliplex products servicing the
carrier market include the HPX-300-SS, a modular 16 slot chassis that measures
1RU - acknowledged as the industry's smallest form factor. The HPX-300-SS
incorporates up to 16 Interface Modules that provide connectivity for
traditional voice and data services, as well as variable speed Ethernet,
according to customer needs. The HPX-300 SS enables granular connectivity and
management from 64Kbps channels through E1/T1, E3/T3 to full STM-1 over both
fibre optic and copper cabling plants.
The Haliplex solution can eliminate
the need for expensive CPE equipment, and can simplify service delivery at the
edge, providing access to untapped markets where customers have limited IT
skills in-house and will depend on the carrier to centrally manage and
provision services.
The two companies will initially embark on a number
of sales initiatives in the Greater China market, where Unitech has significant
presence. Haliplex's vice president of worldwide sales, Mr Alex Turkington
